Showing no sign of slowing down Jason Laidback is back on his forward-thinking imprint Nightprowl. With a steady stream of system smashing releases under its belt, the label has been making some serious waves on the underground since the beginning of the year. The 9th release sees Jason delving into the sound of the golden era of Acid House & warehouse raves to pay homage to some of the most influential Rave tunes of the time. Namechecking never sounded so funky!
We asked Jason about his Top 5 Oldskool Rave Bangers.
The Prodigy had and still have the phattest beats, strongest melodies and coolest vocals. This influenced my own Skin Up ‘Juicy Red Apple’ tune as it had a similar quirky vibe to Charly but nobody does it better than these legends. Their first LP ‘Experience’ is full of rave classics that still sound amazing today!
Sorry, had to include one of my own productions! Great memories of causing outrage in the newspapers like The Sun/News of the World but big Radio 1, pirate radio and Kiss FM support turned this one into a national hit. Got to play this live with The Prodigy at The Astoria so I was buzzin!
Dark, hypnotic, moody acidic relentless bassline tune that was perfect for the indoor sweatbox raves that I went to. Top tune on the amazing R&S label that also gave us Jaydee’s Plastic Dreams which is also one of my all time favs!
Love the ruffneck beats and b-line but it’s the vocal and sub that will bring you up every time. Such a tuuuune!
Love the dub vibes and this one gave the dancefloor a feeling of unity with it’s lyric and sent everyone crazy once the now legendary ‘Amen’ break came in. Banger!
